Private Entities under RTI Act
As stated under the RTI Act, only those private organisations which have been substantially funded are covered under the RTI Act. This includes NGOs, schools and colleges that have been aided by the government.
Therefore, in the given circumstances and factual position of law, it is clear that only government organisations and government-funded organisations are covered under the ambit of the RTI Act, 2005.
The RTI Act is not applicable to private self-funded institutions. K.C. College of Engineering and Management Studies and Research, Thane, is a self-funded private institute.
Accordingly, the RTI Act is not applicable to the institution.
